| It's kind of annoying when someone acts a certain way or does something fake just to look "cool" in front of others. Yea.
On another note, I was sick all day today. I had the worst headaches that I've ever had and it lasted nearly all day. The only way I could get my mind off the pain was to well ... sleep. I'm starting to feel better now, but the pain today was nearly unbearable. I think it happened because I ate a late meal last night and went to sleep soon after, in combination with the fact that I was stressing out because of a test I have tomorrow. The last time I had headaches like this happened the night before an exam back in April. I tend to get over-stressed at exam times. I've also been really busy and hectic lately. I should try to take things easier this week.

| ABC Family aired an all-day marathon of the show "My Wife and Kids" today. I took it easy today and just chillaxed all day, so I watched a few episodes of this show and was pleasantly surprised. It was a show that aired in the first half of the 2000s which is partly why I was surprised (this was a dying age for the family sitcom). I've got a personal affinity for the old traditional family sitcom; it likely stems from watching these shows during my childhood (think back to the old TGIF).
Most of the family sitcoms that aired in the 2000s were pretty weak. The number of these shows airing on primetime network television has declined over the years and the few that have aired haven't been very good (with the exception of a few which I could name another time). I remember watching "My Wife and Kids" back when it first aired, but didn't find it to be anything special. Now that I watch it, I actually find it to be a lot better (however, it's still not anything spectacular). I'm a little surprised that a traditional family sitcom of this decent quality actually premiered and aired in this decade (in addition to a few others). It's still far from perfect, but it's an interesting watch.

| More random mubling.
"The Dark Knight" has shattered all box-office records. But it's skewed statistics so it shouldn't be any big fuss. No doubt that this movie deserves to be shattering records, but let's not blow things out of proportion here. It's on pace for #2 behind "Titanic". But ticket prices were a lot lower back when "Titanic" came out, so it's got a long way to go (unfortunately...). With that same logic, "Gone With The Wind" came out in the 30s when you could see a movie with a quarter, so I'm sure the statistics are being very skewed there.
How come TS Edourard missed SA completely? We needed some rain and got zilch. Same can go for Dolly too.
"Pineapple Express" came out today and I am looking forward to seeing it. The Apatow productions are always good (i.e. Superbad, Knocked Up). "Tropic Thunder" comes out next week and that looks just as good. This is the month for comedies I suppose. I want to go see a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse here in SA. I've been to the ones in Austin a couple times and it's a unique experience. I wonder if the SA one can compare. | | |
| I should be going to sleep right now but I'm not. Every morning I wake up tired even though I am getting a decent night of sleep. Oh well, I don't feel like sleeping right now.
I need to register for a class for the Fall Semester. I am now in the Information Technology master's program at UTSA. Basically, this program is offered through the business school and will let me take a combination of tech and management courses. It's kind of a best of both worlds program and seems to be something that fits me since I want to get more management knowledge while at the same time improving my technical background. But I gotta register for a class if I want to do that ;). Grad classes don't fill up very quickly so I'm taking my time.
A couple of years ago I didn't see myself being as much on the management side of things at my job, but nonetheless I am. I am not complaining though, it offers a different kind of experience that just straight-forward programming. Being more on the business side of things can be kind of interesting and exciting sometimes.
This channel called ION is rerunning old episodes of ER in the evenings. I've watched that show over the years and it's a very hit or miss show, but I still like watching it. There are some episodes and storylines which are really good, while others can be quite dull. But all in all, I just like lying back and watching the episodes. It's got a very naturalness to it's style - characters, emotions, and situations unfold in a subtle manner (well, not all the time) and it's complemented by the unique single-camera motion. I love how the camera moves on that show - it'll glide from one set of characters to another as the setting and focus move onto to those characters.
I bought Cold-Eze Zinc Lozenges earlier today. My cousin has had a cold and I think I might be starting to get one too. I've heard that Zinc Lozenges help reduce the length of a cold as long as you start taking it early enough (at the first sign of symptoms). So I picked up the lozenges and I'm going to see how this cold goes.
Well, thanks for listening to my random mumblings while I avoid going to sleep.

| The Batman series has been completely revitalized. Batman Begins was no fluke. I saw The Dark Knight earlier and it was just purely amazing. If you're familiar with IMDB.com, it is currently #1 on their Top 250 List. That number will surely drop in the coming weeks, users generally overrate great movies like this when they first come out, but it still stands as testament to how great this movie is.
This movie is intense, smart, well-written, and brilliantly acted. Like Batman Begins, it's much more character-driven as opposed to the action-driven nature of most comic-book action movies. That's not to say that the action scenes in this movie aren't amazing. In particular, an car chase action scene about half-way through the movie was one of the most thrilling AND smartest action scenes I've seen in years, if not ever. At the end of this scene, the crowd literally broke into cheering and applause.
This movie was also more depressing than the previous film, which itself was very dark. There is a lot of tragedy, but also room for hope. It sort of reminded me of the second part of the original Star Wars trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back. That movie has a lot of dark moments and ends with an ending of despair, but offers a lot of hope for the future. I look forward to the third part of this new Batman series which should hopefully resolve some of the gloom. I actually right now would say that I liked Batman Begins a little better, but that might change after I see the next movie and I see more of the resolution.
I don't think I need to say much about the acting in this movie. Enough has been said about the amazing performance Heath Ledger gives as the Joker. I think it should also be noted that part of the reason for this is that he was given great material to work with from the excellent writing to the notable direction. But it still took great acting to pull it all off.
If you haven't seen The Dark Knight, I'd recommend setting a date to see it soon. And if you haven't seen Batman Begins, then I'd make that your highest priority right now (I just saw it this week and am still surprised it took me this long to see it).
